Every day, we scour the work tabs at racetracks all over the country. We are looking for workouts that may be of interest and helpful to you — as both race fans and handicappers. Some of the horses we will be tracking, you will know. Some of them, you may not know — as of yet.
- Lady Fatima, a 3YO daughter of Bodemeister and trained by Mark Casse, worked at the trainer’s facility in Central Florida this morning. This gal — who ran 8th in the G3 Schuylerville Stakes at Saratoga last summer and was 7th in the Chelsey Flower Stakes at Aqueduct in November, went 3 furlongs in :36.20. That was the bullet move out of 5 to clock that distance this morning. Keep a peek on this one. She may be better than those Stakes finishes a year ago.
- Prince of Thieves, a 3YO son of Into Mischief, may be another sleeper in the barn of Mark Casse. This one ran 3rd in the KY Downs Juvenile Turf Sprint Stakes last September, but returned to run 13th in the G3 Bourbon Stakes at KEE in October. Has been off since November, but worked this morning at the training facility, too. Went a very nice 5 furlongs in 1:00.20. That was the bullet out of 2 to clock the distance. This homebred for owner Tracy Farmer may be a little better this year as a 3YO.
- British Idiom, the 2YO Champion filly of a year ago, returned to the racetrack at the Fair Grounds this morning for trainer Brad Cox. This one started the 2020 season with a hard-fought second to the high-propane Finite in the G2 Rachel Alexandra Stakes here on Feb. 15. Today was BI’s first breeze since the race. Went an easy half-mile in :49 flat. That was 41st best time out of 107 to clock that distance. Look for this one to be a bit more fit and a lot more game in the next out. She’s still the Champ. She’s still the 1, for me.
- By My Standards, winner of the Louisiana Derby a year ago and an impressive winner in the 2020 debut here on Feb. 9 for trainer W. Bret Calhoun, got his first published work since the winning effort. Went 4 furlongs in :48.60. That was the 20th best time out of the 107. This one looks to be a man now. And, he has been expertly handled by a top trainer. Look for this one to have a great 2020. Can’t wait to see this one hook the likes of Maximum Security latter this year. This one will be up to that later this year, IMO.
- Long Weekend, a really nice 3YO son of Majesticperfection and trained by Tom Amoss, worked for the first time after winning an allowance event over at Sam Houston on Feb. 19 in the last outing. This one had not started since running 6th in the G2 Saratoga special last August when he came up game over in Texas. Shipped over there after having to scratch off a sloppy racetrack in NO. Worked today. Went a half mile in :48 flat. That was 6th best out of the 107. Look for this one to quickly move up to challenge the best of the 3YOs in Louisiana soon. Still could be considered for the Triple Crown trail. Not too late for this one.
- Mailman Money, a 3YO son of Goldencents and most recently 4th in a division of the G2 Risen Star Stakes at the Fair Grounds, worked this morning in New Orleans for trainer W. Bret Calhoun. Went a half in :48.80. that was 31st best. In 3 lifetime starts now, this one has 2 wins and the 4th. Look for huge improvement out of the Stakes event, where he encountered some traffic issues. Big upside for this one. Big.
- Major Fed, a talented son of Ghostzapper and trained by Greg Foley, worked at the Fair Grounds this morning, as well. This rapid-fire runner has a 1-1-1 record in 3 career starts now and is exiting a fine 2nd in a division of the Risen Star, too. This guy fired a :47 flat half mile this morning. That was the bullet move. Look out here, guys. This one will roll into the Louisiana Derby with a lot of hype. Coming.
- Tom’s d’Etat, a 7YO son of Smart Strike and coming off an impressive win in the G1 Clark Stakes at Churchill Downs last November, is working his way back to you. the horse — trained by Albert Stall, Jr. — went 4 furlongs in :49.80. That was the 76th best time. It was his 5th published work since returning to serious training in early February. In 16 career starts, this one has a 9-2-1 record and how now won over $1.236 million. More to come.
- Jezebel’s Kitten, a 3YO daughter of Kitten’s Joy and yet another outstanding female in the barn of Brad Cox, worked this morning in New Orleans. This gal — who has won 2 of 3 lifetime tarts and is coming off a 4th in the G2 Jessamine Stakes in her last outing in October — worked 5 furlongs in 1:01.20 over the main dirt track. It was the 6th published work for this one since returning to serious training on Jan. 20. Look for this one to find the entry box soon. Looks ready. Primed.
- Serengeti’s Empress, winner of the KY Oaks just a year ago and as tough as any filly in the world, worked this morning at the Fair Grounds. She breezed 5 furlongs in a super impressive :59.60. that was the bullet move out of 40 to clock the distance today. Last time out, she ran 2nd in the G3 Houston Ladies Classic Stakes at Sam Houston. It was her 2020 career debut. And, this one has now posted a 5-3-1 record in 13 starts and has amassed $1.521 million in earnings. Love this one.
