We are back looking at the daily workout schedule from around the country. Every day (Some days?), we scour the work tabs at racetracks all over the country. We are looking for workouts that may be of interest and helpful to you — as both race fans and handicappers. Some of the horses we will be tracking, you will know. Some of them, you may not know — as of yet.
We are back…Take a look:
- Jaxon Traveler, a 3YO son of Munnings and a Maryland-bred trained by Steve Asmussen, worked at Belmont Park this morning. The speedster went 4 furlongs in a tardy :52.92, which was the 18th best time out of 19 to go that far. Last ran on July 15 in the G3 Quick Call Stakes at Saratoga. Was 3rd that day to Golden Pal when they sprinted 5.5-furlogns over the turf. Today was a pure maintenance move. Ready for the next. Next?
- Somelikeithotbrown, a 5YO son of Big Brown and a multiple Graded Stakes winner for trainer Mike Maker, breezed at the Churchill Downs’ Training Center in Louisville this morning. The grass expert went an easy half-mile over the dirt track in :49.20. That was the 9th best time out of 22 to go that far. Last ran in the G2 Wise Dan Stakes at Churchill Downs on June 26. Was 2nd that day to the red-hot Set Piece. Time before? Somelikeithotbrown won the G2 Dinner Party Stakes at Pimlico. Sitting on really good right now.
- Condemn, a well-bred 2YO colt by Medaglia d’Oro and trained by Tommy Drury for the powerhouse stable of Claiborne Farm and Adele Dilschneider, worked this morning at the Churchill Downs’ Training Center, as well. This youngster went 5 furlongs in 1:01.60. That was the 5th best time out of 9, but he doesn’t need a lot of morning work right now. Coming off a nice 2nd at Ellis Park last time out on July 11. Should be sitting on a big effort next time out for one of the best trainers in the business.
- Lovemesomeme, a 3YO daughter of Paynter and another in the barn of Tommy Drury, worked this morning, too. This one — who has won 2 in a row at Churchill Downs — went 5 furlongs in a brisk 1:00.80. That was 3rd best of the 9. Lovemesomeme may be ready for some Stakes action soon. If so? Look out. Not a bad purchase here, either. Former trainer Billy Denzik picked this one out at the 2019 KEE September Yearling Sale for a modest $8,200. Has already earned $116,000+. More on the way?
- Soothsay, a 3YO daughter of Distorted Humor and most recent winner of the G3 Indiana Oaks at the grand Indy Grand Racing & Casino, worked this morning at Del Mar. This filly — who has won 3 of 4 lifetime tries and has a 2nd in the only loss — was magnificent after hopping at the gate and nearly losing all contact with the field in the early stages of the Indiana Oaks. Caught them all at the wire after a brilliant ride by Flavien Prat. Don’t dismiss this one from the big races yet to come in one of the deepest and widest divisions in all of racing right now. She worked 3 furlongs at the “Turf = Surf” today. Went the distance in :38.60 for trainer Richard Mandella. That was 35th best of the 37. Not to worry. This gal can bring it.
- Flagstaff, a 7YO gelded son of Speightstown and trained by John Sadler, worked at Del Mar this morning, as well. This one — who has a sparkling record of 7-6-3 in just 20 lifetime starts and has now won over $1.011 million in a the career — is coming off a 2nd in the G2 True North Stakes at Belmont Park after winning the G1 Churchill Downs Stakes on KY Derby Day. Won the G3 Commonwealth Stakes at KEE before that. Good right now? Do you think? He worked this morning from the gate and went 5 furlongs in 1:00.20. That was the 4th best time out of the 62. Watch this one. Sitting on go. Again.
- Gamine, a “Champ” despite the fact that she was DQ’d for a positive test in the Kentucky Oaks for embattled trainer Bob Baffert, worked at Del Mar this morning. The speedster went 5 furlongs in a methodical 1:02.80, which was the 46th best time out of the 62. Word has it that she may be sent to NY and Saratoga to test the waters and patience of the NYRA higher brass. We shall see. But the filly can run. In 9 lifetime tries? She has 8 wins. Lone loss. The DQ.
- Plainsman, a 6YO son of Flatter and trained by Brad Cox, worked this morning at Ellis Park, along with a number of other top runners from this massive shed row. The horse — who won the Michael G. Schaefer Memorial Stakes at Indy Grand last time out and the Jim Rasmussen Stakes at Prairie Meadows the time before — went a half-mile in :48.80. That was the 21st best time out of the 65 to clock the distance. May not tackle the G1s, but this barn knows how to make money.
- Warrant, a 3YO son of Constitution and another from the Cox barn, won the Texas Derby last time out after being 2nd in the Oaklawn Stakes back on KY Derby Day. Has not raced since May 31, but tuned up at Ellis Park this morning for the next encounter. Went 4 furlongs in :48.80, which was the 21st best time out of the 65. It was the 7th published work since June 12 for this one. Looks ready.
- Dennis’ Moment, a superb talent as a 2YO and a enigma ever since for trainer Dale Romans, was super impressive this morning at the ole “Pea Patch.” The 4YO son of Tiznow dazzled them all, going 5 furlongs in :58.40. That was the bullet move out of 19 to go that far. Don’t know what is next for this one. Or when it will come. But this was the 6th published workout since June 26. Looks about ready to roll the wheels off the car.
- Warrior’s Charge, runner-up in the G2 Stephen Foster Stakes at Churchill Downs last time out for trainer Brad Cox, worked at Ellis Park this morning, too. This guy — who has a 5-3-3 mark in 16 lifetime tries, but is looking for win #1 in 4 tries this year — went 4 furlongs in :48.40. That was the 10th best time out of 65. Last win came in the G3 Phillip H. Iselin Stakes last August — a year ago. May be ready for another one soon.
