Every day, we scour the work tabs at racetracks all over the country. We are looking for workouts that may be of interest and helpful to you — as both race fans and handicappers. Some of the horses we will be tracking, you will know. Some of them, you may not know — as of yet.
- Mind Control, a 4YO son of Stay Thirsty and trained by Gregory Sacco, worked at Belmont Park this morning. In his last outing, the colt breezed to an impressive win in the G3 Tom Fool Stakes at Aqueduct on March 7. It was the 3rd straight victory for the multiple Graded Stakes winner, who now has over $1.003 million in earnings. Mind Control worked a half mile this morning in :48.01. That was the 2nd fastest time out of 188 to go the distance. Don’t know when racing may return in New York. May be some time. So, morning works may be the only race he gets for awhile.
- Patrol, a 3YO son of Liam’s Map and trained by Mark Casse, worked at the trainer’s farm operation near Ocala this morning. The colt — a winner in his only start, to date — breezed 4 furlongs in :48.40. That was the bullet move out of 2 to go that distance. This guy managed to make it out of New York. Last breeze there came on March 14. This one looks to have some talent. Ready to display again soon, if given the chance.
- Bell’s the One, a Graded Stakes-winning filly for trainer Neil Pessin, worked at the Fair Grounds on Saturday. The track, which had been closed for a.m. works over the last 6 days, was back in operation. This filly — who ran 7th in the Mardi Gras Stakes here on Feb. 25 in her 2020 debut — went an impressive half mile in :47.40. That was the bullet time out of 85 to negotiate the distance. Three starts ago, this filly won the G2 Lexus Raven Run Stakes at Keeneland. Talent and versatile. More in the tank.
- Serengeti Empress, the impressive runaway winner of the G2 Azeri Stakes at the Fair Grounds in her last start for trainer Tom Amoss, worked on Saturday in New Orleans, as well. The 4YO daughter of Alternation went an easy 4 furlongs in :48.80. That was the 17th best time out of the 85 for this speed ball wonder. In 14 career starts now, the 2019 KY Oaks winner has 6 wins, 3 seconds and a third. She has over $1.731 million in career earnings. More to come, too. More to come.
- Digital, a 3YO son of Into Mischief and trained by W. Bret Calhoun for the owner Tom Durant, worked on Saturday in New Orleans, as well. This guy — who had back-to-back wins before he ran 5th in a division of the G2 Risen Star Stakes in his last outing — went 5 furlongs in an eye-popping time of :59.20. That was the bullet move out of 30 to clock the distance. This late March foal is still developing and he could develop into a powerhouse for this barn. Take note.
- Mr. Big News, a 3YO son of Giant’s Causeway and another talented runner in the barn of Calhoun, worked 5 furlongs at the Fair Grounds on Saturday, too. This one — who has a win and a second in the first 5 career starts for Chester Thomas’ Allied Racing Stable — went the distance in :59.60. That was the 2nd best time out of the 30. In his last outing, he was 5th in a division of the G2 Risen Star, as well. Look for more when he can find a racetrack open.
- Mr. Money, who was sure money when he ripped off 4 G3 Stakes wins in a row last year, is still waiting to make his 2020 debut for the barn of Calhoun and Thomas. He got to stretch his legs a bit on Saturday, touring the Fair Grounds main dirt track to the tune of 6 furlongs. Went the distance in 1:11.40. That was the only time of the day at the distance. Be fun to see this son of Goldencents back in competition. Love his style and his grit.
- Mr. Freeze, one of the best older horses in training these days, breezed at Gulfstream Park this morning for trainer Dale Romans. The 5UO son of To Honor and Serve went 5 furlongs in a maintenance move time of 1:01.25. That was the 5th best time out of 20 to go the distance. This guy has hit the board in each of his last 6 starts and won the G2 Gulfstream Park Mile Stakes last time out on Feb. 29. Before that, he was 2nd in the G1 Pegasus World Cup Invitational to Mucho Gusto. Look for more out of this one this year. Sitting on go.
- Owendale, a 4YO son of Into Mischief and winner of over $1.071 million now for trainer Brad Cox, worked this morning at Keeneland in Lexington. The winner of the 2019 G3 Lexington Stakes breezed 3 furlongs in :36.40. That was the 2nd best time out of 3 to clock the distance and it was the colt’s first published work since he recorded a 2nd place finish in the G1 Clark Stakes at Churchill Downs last November. Big year ahead possible for this one.
- Mylady Curlin, a 5YO daughter of Curlin and runner-up to Serengeti in the G2 Azeri Stakes last time out, worked at Oaklawn Park this morn for trainer Brad Cox. The winner of the G2 Falls City Handicap at Churchill Downs last November went 4 furlongs in a maintenance move time of :49.20. That was the 10th best time out of 55 to clock the distance. In 17 lifetime starts now, this gal has a record of 8-4-2 and is closing in on a $1 million milestone.
- Silver Prospector, a 3YO son of Declaration of War and winner of the G3 Southwest Stakes just two starts ago, tuned up for a possible run in the G1 Arkansas Derby this morning for trainer Steve Asmussen. The colt breezed 5 furlongs in 1:02.60. That was the 8th best time out of 19 to go that far. Last time out, this one disappointed with a 6th place finish in the G2 Rebel Stakes. But don’t forget. It was not that long ago when he busted Tiz the Law in the G2 KY Jockey Club Stakes at Churchill Downs. Take note.
