We are back looking at the daily workout schedule from around the country. Every day (Some days?), we scour the work tabs at racetracks all over the country.  We are looking for workouts that may be of interest and helpful to you — as both race fans and handicappers.  Some of the horses we will be tracking, you will know.  Some of them, you may not know — as of yet.

We are back…Take a look:

  1. Higher Standard, a 3YO son of Into Mischief and trained by Tom Amoss, worked at the Fair Grounds in New Orleans this morn. The two-time winner breezed 4 furlongs in :49.60 — which was the 18th best time out of 32 to cover the main dirt course at the distance. Last time out, this one impressed with a 21/2-length win in an allowance race here. Before that, this one was 6th in the Sugar Bowl Stakes here in late December and was 2nd in the Advent Stakes at Oaklawn Park in early December. Was 2nd to Kavod, who came back to run well and 4th against Newgrange in the G3 Southwest Stakes on Jan. 29. In 4 career starts now, Higher Standard has a resume of 2 wins, a second. Look for more out of this one. Has the sire power.
  2. Li’l Tootsie, a 4YO daughter of Tapiture and another from the barn of Amoss, worked in New Orleans this morning, as well. The 5-time winner went 4 furlongs in :48.20. That was the 2nd best time out of 32. This gal is Graded Stakes placed and despite her 6th in the American Beauty Stakes at Oaklawn last time out, she is still highly regarded. Won the two previous to that effort. Next?
  3. Brocade, a 3YO filly by Into Mischief and trained by the embattled Bob Baffert, worked at Santa Anita this morning. This gal — who sold for a handsome $750,000 at the Keeneland September Yearling Sale in 2020 after not meeting her reserve price as a weanling in the 2019 November Sale — went 5 furlongs over the dirt track in 1:00.40. That was the bullet move out of 18 to go the distance. It was her 7th published work since being returned to serious training in late December. In her only start thus far, she was a very disappointing 8th at Santa Anita last October. That was last. She was beaten many. Will be interesting to see how this one returns. Right?
  4. Forbidden Kingdom, a 3YO son of American Pharoah and now ranked #16 in the latest “The Pressbox’s KY Derby Rankings” released earlier this week, worked this morning at “The Great Race Place,” as well. He went 6 furlongs for HOF trainer Richard Mandella in 1:13.60. That was the best recorded time out of 5 to challenge the distance. Last time out, this one captured the G2 San Vicente Stakes and in 4 career starts to date, he has a record of 2-1-1. Whipped 3 of Baffert’s group in the 5-horse field. Time to step up next time out.
