Every day, we scour the work tabs at racetracks all over the country. We are looking for workouts that may be of interest and helpful to you — as both race fans and handicappers. Some of the horses we will be tracking, you will know. Some of them, you may not know — as of yet.
- Mrs. O’Connell, a 3YO daughter of American Pharaoh and trained by Kenny McPeek, worked this morning at Gulfstream Park in South Florida. This gal broke her maiden last November at Churchill Downs, going 1 mile over the turf course. Came from a stalking position to win by 1/2-length at the wire. Today, she got her 3rd published work since being returned to serious training on Feb. 6. Went 4 furlongs in a very impressive :47.91. That was the 3rd best time out of 29 to clock that distance. Few more to tighten the screws?
- Honorifique, a 3YO daughter of Honor Code and trained by Eddie Kenneally, worked this morning at the Palm Meadows Training Center in South Florida. This one is coming off a very nice 2nd to Gulf Coast in the Cash Run Stakes at Gulfstream Park on Jan. 1. Worked today over the main dirt track, going 4 furlongs in :50.60. That was the 18th best time out of 23 to go the distance. Third published work since the last race. Should be ready now.
- Speech, a Graded Stakes-winning daughter of Mr Speaker and trained by Michael McCarthy, has not raced since finishing 6th in the G1 Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Sprint. Dusted that day by Gamine, but this gal is very talented in her own right. Got her 2nd published work since being returned to serious training on Feb. 11. Went 3 furlongs in :35.80, which was super impressive and the bullet move of the day at the distance. This gal is still aways away from the starting gate, but a super talent. Super.
- Tizamagician, a 4YO colt by Tiznow and trained by HOFer Richard Mandella, worked this morning at Santa Anita. This guy — who is multiple Graded Stakes placed and is coming off a 2nd in the G2 San Pasqual Stakes here on Jan. 30 — went 5 furlongs in 1:00.80. That was the 6th best time out of 28 to go the distance. Look for this one to be right back in soon enough. Good right now.
