Every day, we scour the work tabs at racetracks all over the country.  We are looking for workouts that may be of interest and helpful to you — as both race fans and handicappers.  Some of the horses we will be tracking, you will know.  Some of them, you may not know — as of yet.  We will keep a keen eye and stopwatch to see who may be working well:

  1. Adventurous Lady, a 3YO Kantharos filly trained by Steve Asmussen, has not hit the board in two starts this year, having run 4th in the Dixie Belle Stakes at Oaklawn Park in February and the Saylorville Stakes on July 6 at Prairie Meadows. But the multiple Stakes winner looked like she tightened it up a bit this morning at Churchill Downs. She worked a half mile today in :48.60 — which was the 13th best time out of 43 to work the distance. Looks like she could be a bit better the next time out. Bears watching.
  2. Seeking the Soul, a 6YO son of Perfect Soul and a winner of over $3.335 million to date, worked this morning at Churchill Downs. The Stephen Foster winner went a half mile in :48.60 — which was the same time as the filly above. Don’t know yet if trainer Dallas Stewart has picked out the next race for this ole’ “Soul,” but he figures to be tough again. I wouldn’t discount.
  3. Winter Sunset, a well-bred 3YO daughter of Tapit and out of the lovely mare Winter Memories, has never missed the board in 5 races to date. Over 5 career starts, she has 2 wins, 1 second, and 2 thirds. Coming off a nice second in the G3 Regret Stakes at Churchill Downs in mid-June for trainer Wayne Catalano. Filly worked today, going 5 furlongs in 1:01.80 — which was the 2nd best time out of 18 to clock the distance. Grass is her thing. And, a win may be her thing, too, very soon.
  4. Flor de La Mar, a 3YO Tiznow filly trained by Team Baffert, worked this morning at Del Mar. You know. The place where the surf does meet the turf? She went 5 furlongs in 1:00 flat — which was the bullet move out of 48 to go that far this a.m. The filly has not started since she was 5th in the G2 Summertime Oaks at Santa Anita on may 26. That came on the heels of her 11th place finish behind the fine Serengeti Empress in the KY Oaks. Watch for this one next out. She won on debut at Santa Anita on Jan. 20.
  5. Marley’s Freedom, one of the more talented female runners in the world these days, worked at Del Mar this morning, as well. The 5YO mare went 6 furlongs over the dirt track in 1:12.60 — which was the bullet move out of 5 to work the distance. In 18 career starts, Marley’s Freedom has 9 wins and 4 seconds. She won the G2 Great Lady M. Stakes at Los Alamitos on July 6 in her last start. Gamer.
