Every day, we scour the work tabs at racetracks all over the country. We are looking for workouts that may be of interest and helpful to you — as both race fans and handicappers. Some of the horses we will be tracking, you will know. Some of them, you may not know — as of yet. We will keep a keen eye and stopwatch to see who may be working well:
- Awesome One, a 3YO Speightstown filly trained by my great friend Buff Bradley, worked a bullet this morning at the Fair Grounds. This talented gal went a half-mile in :47.40, which was the fastest of 28 to go the distance. In her last start, she ran second in New Orleans and was beaten less than 2 in a 5.5-furlong sprint over the dirt. Came running late in that one. She is entered for next Wednesday at the FG (March 13). May be worth a watch.
- Limnery, a 3YO son of Artie Schiller and trained by Brad Cox, broke his maiden at the Fair Grounds last time out and is now entered right back on March 13. Worked this morning in New Orleans, going an easy half in :49.20. That was the 11th fastest time. May be ready to move on up.
- My Miss Lilly, a downright gorgeous Tapit filly trained by Mark Hennig, is coming off a third in an allowance event at Gulfstream Park on Feb. 15 in the 2019 debut. This gal ran 3rd in the G3 Forward Gal; 1st in the G2 Gazelle Stakes; and 3rd in the G2 Mother Goose a year ago. She was back in training in South Florida today, going a half-mile in :49.71. That was the 13th best time out of the 20 to go. It was her first published work since the race. Look for improvement next time out. Love her.
- Corruze, a 3YO Into Mischief colt trained by Chris Hartman, is entered for an allowance event at Oaklawn Park on Friday — as in tomorrow. He went 6 furlongs today, though, in 1:13 flat — which was the bullet move out of 3 to go the distance. Interesting. Figuring a scratch tomorrow. But this one has 2 wins in 4 starts in the career. May be headed to the Rebel now that there is two divisions? Maybe. He ran fifth in the Lloyd Captain Maestri Memorial Stakes at the FG on Feb. 2 in the last out.
- Ellyb, a 3YO son of Pioneerof the Nile and trained by Arnaud Delacour, may be one to keep your eye firmly fixed upon. This one breezed a half mile this morning at Tampa Bay Downs in :48 flat. That was the bullet move out of 17 to go the distance, and a really good time over this track. In three career races to date, he has a win here on Jan. 6. In his last outing, he was 4-wide early on and then had to be steadied at the 5/8ths pole. Rough trip. Connections paid $360,000 for him at Keeneland November in 2016. Look for better soon.
