Every day, we scour the work tabs at racetracks all over the country.  We are looking for workouts that may be of interest and helpful to you — as both race fans and handicappers.  Some of the horses we will be tracking, you will know.  Some of them, you may not know — as of yet.

  1. Special Honor, a 3YO Honor Code filly and trained by Mark Casse, worked at the trainer’s spa facility near Ocala on Tuesday. The April foal went 4 furlongs in :48.60 — which was the 6th best time out of 18 to clock the distance. In four career starts to date, all at Woodbine, she has a win; a second; a third; and a fourth. The 4th came in the G3 Mazarine Stakes last October. She has not started since Nov. 2, but today’s move marked the 5th published work since Feb. 20. Should be about ready to head to the racetrack soon — if there was a racetrack to head off to.
  2. Ring of Fire, a 3YO son of Speightstown and trained by Wayne Catalano, worked at Oaklawn Park this morning and he is the latest to join our “Horses to Watch List.” In addition to having one of the greatest names, the colt made his first start a the Fair Grounds in March and ran 3rd on debut — at odds of over 33-1. Worked at Oaklawn Park this morning and turned a few heads, too. Went 5 furlongs in a brisk :59.20. That was the bullet move out of 23 to go the distance. Nice. The new owners purchased this one for $125,000 at the Keeneland November Sale last year. WinStar Farm bred this one and WinStar Racing had in training before that auction. May want to keep tabs on this guy.
  3. Beacon Hill, a 3YO Blame colt who has not started a race yet, may be another to keep your binoculars tuned to for upcoming morning works and, hopefully, races to come. This one sold as a yearling at the Fasig-Tipton Saratoga Sale in 2018 for a whopping $500,000. Was purchased then by SF / Starlight West. Started the training career this year on the West Coast. First 5 published works were at Santa Anita. Last 4 of them were from the gate. The last one was a 5 furlong move in :59.60 — which was the 2nd fastest time out of 124 to make the distance that day. Two weeks later, this guy shows up on the work tab at Keeneland. Today’s move was the third since the transfer and was the best. Went a half mile in :48 flat. That was the bullet move out of 5 to go that far. Looks to have some talent. Looks to be about ready. Looks to be one that I will watch.
