Every day, we scour the work tabs at racetracks all over the country. We are looking for workouts that may be of interest and helpful to you — as both race fans and handicappers. Some of the horses we will be tracking, you will know. Some of them, you may not know — as of yet. We will keep a keen eye and stopwatch to see who may be working well:
- Bound for Nowhere, a 5YO horse by The Factor and trained by Wesley Ward, worked over the turf at Keeneland this morning. He went 5 furlongs in a leisurely 1:03.80 — which was the second best time out of two to go the distance. This guy — who ran 2nd in the G2 Shakertown Stakes at Keeneland in his last out — has been entered at Churchill Downs for Friday — on the undercard of the KY Oaks. It is the G2 Twin Spires Turf Sprint. In 10 lifetime starts, he has 5 wins, a second and a third. Watch out here.
- Undrafted, now a statesman-like 9YO and also trained by Ward, worked at Keeneland, as well. And, the gelded son of Purim is also entered in the same race on Friday. He went 5 furlongs over the grass course at Keeneland in 1:00.80 — which was the bullet move. He has not run since finishing first in an allowance at Churchill Downs on Nov. 22. Before that, he was 7th in the G2 Woodford Stakes at Keeneland last October. Veteran has a huge late kick. Don’t discount. Even of the break.
- Wonder Stone, a 3YO Super Saver filly trained by Ward, has not raced since finishing 5th in the Bridgetown Stakes at Aqueduct on April 13. But she trained 5 furlongs over the dirt at Keeneland this morning, going the distance in 1:01 flat. That was the 9th best time out of 24 to go the distance. In 4 career starts to date, this filly has 2 wins. She was RNA’d for a meager $9,000 at the 2017 KEE September Sale. Already cashed in for $56,958. And, set to do more.
- Lookin at Lee, second in the Kentucky Derby in 2017 and still in training for Steve Asmussen, worked this morning at Oaklawn Park. Went an easy half mile in :50 flat. That was 5th best out of 10 to test the distance. In 22 career starts, the son of Lookin at Lucky has only 3 wins. But he has 4 seconds and 3 thirds, and has amassed $1.158 million in purse earnings. Not a bad return on 3 wins. This one is entered for Saturday in the Sunland Park Handicap in Arizona.
- Whiskey Echo, a 3YO son of Tiznow and trained by Asmussen, worked at Oaklawn Park today, as well. This guy looked to have a very bright future last year, when, as a 2YO, he won on debut at Belmont Park and followed that up with a third to Sombeya in the G3 Sanford Stakes. Came back to run 2nd in the Ellis Park Juvenile in August. Has been laid up since that race, though. Got his 8th published workout since March 2 this morning, going 5 furlongs in 1:00.20. That was the bullet move out of 3 to go the distance. Looks ready. And, primed.
- Catalina Cruiser, one of the most talented older horses in training today for John Sadler, worked at Santa Anita this morning. The big Union Rags colt rolled 5 furlongs in an easy 1:02 flat, which was 5th best of 16 to mark the distance. It was the colt’s 4th published work out since resuming training on April 9. Last time he raced, he suffered his first career defeat — running 6th to City of Light in the G1 Breeders’ Cup Mile. Had previously won 4 in a row. Cranking it up.
