I am currently in Iceland on holiday, and we are 4 hours ahead of the Eastern Time Zone. So, when I sit to study on the day’s work tab, I am several hours ahead of any of the day’s work horses. So, I will be reviewing Tuesday’s tab today:
Every day, we scour the work tabs at racetracks all over the country. We are looking for workouts that may be of interest and helpful to you — as both race fans and handicappers. Some of the horses we will be tracking, you will know. Some of them, you may not know — as of yet. We will keep a keen eye and stopwatch to see who may be working well:
- Stellar Sound, a 2YO Tapit filly trained by Bob Baffert, may be a gal that you want to keep an eye on for the future endeavors. This filly won on debut at Del Mar on Aug. 18, coming from 3 lengths back in the stretch to win and go away by over 1/2-length. Green as a gourd the first time out, but sure to get better and you have to love the breeding, right? The dam, Siren Serenade, didn’t win, but had 4 seconds and a third in 10 career starts. The second dam? The great Versailles Treaty. Enough written. Bears watching. Went a half mile on Tuesday. Worked the distance in :48.80. That was 4th best of 22 to go that far.
- Stormy Liberal, a 2-time Breeders’ Cup winner and supposedly scheduled to ship to Franklin, KY for a bout at KY Downs soon, worked at Del Mar on Tuesday. Went 5 furlongs in 1:01 flat over the main dirt track. That was 5th best of 15 to go the distance. In 4 starts this year, the 7YO son of Stormy Atlantic has not won. But he does have 2 seconds and 2 thirds. Has won over $2.1 million in the career, to date. Never been over the hills and dales of KY Downs, though. Interesting selection of venues for this one.
- Instagrand, a 3YO son of Into Mischief and trained by Jerry Hollendorfer, showed up on the work tab at Saratoga on Tuesday. This guy was scheduled to be one of the top contenders for this year’s Triple Crown series, but after running 3rd in both the G3 Gotham Stakes in NY, and 3rd in the G1 Santa Anita Derby, he was cut back in distance for the G3 Pat Day Mile on KY Derby Day. That didn’t work out, either. Ran 8th behind Mr. Money, that day, and has been off since. On Tuesday, got his 3rd published work out since returning to training on Aug. 11. Went an easy half mile in :50.12. That was 5th best of 8. Be interesting to see where this one (and trainer) show up next.
