Every day, we scour the work tabs at racetracks all over the country.  We are looking for workouts that may be of interest and helpful to you — as both race fans and handicappers.  Some of the horses we will be tracking, you will know.  Some of them, you may not know — as of yet.

  1. Mischevious Alex, a 4YO son of Into Mischief and trained by Safe Josephy, Jr., worked this morning at Gulfstream Park in South Florida. The multiple Graded Stakes winner — who has not raced since winning the 2021 de but in allowance company here on Jan. 10 — went 3 furlongs in :36.44. That was the 4th best time out of 10 to go that far. In 10 lifetime starts, this one has a record of 5-1-1. Did win the G3 Gotham Stakes and the G3 Swales Stakes last year at this time to put him squarely on the “Road to the Kentucky Derby.” But was off the trail quickly and returned in May to run 4th in the G1 Woody Stephens Stakes at Belmont Park. More to come here.
  2. Mr Freeze,  6YO son of To Honor and Serve and trained by Dale Romans, worked at Gulfstream Park this morning, as well. This multiple Graded Stakes winner is entered in Saturday’s G3 Razorback Handicap at Oaklawn Park. Last time out, he was 11th in the G1 Pegasus World Cup Invitational and he has not been close in any of the last 3 — all G1 Stakes. Last win came in the G2 Hagyard Fayette Stakes at KEE on Oct. 1. Went 4 furlongs today in :48.01. That was 5th best of 18. Hoping this guy can return to his G1 form soon. Has earned over $1.5 million in the career to date.
  3. Sally’s Curlin, a 5YO daughter of Curlin and also trained by Romans, worked this morning, too. The multiple Grade Stakes winner travelled a half-mile in :48.15. That was the 6th best time out of 18 to go the distance. This deep, deep come-from-behind closer has not fared well since running 3rd in the Derby City Distaff at Churchill Downs last September. But she has been in deep waters of late. Needs to find a track that respects late movers and a one-turn mile. Soon.
