Nearly?) Every day (Some days?), we scour the work tabs at racetracks all over the country. We are looking for workouts that may be of interest and helpful to you — as both race fans and handicappers. Some of the horses we will be tracking, you will know. Some of them, you may not know — as of yet.
We are back…Take a look:
- O Besos, a talented 3YO son of Orb and trained by Greg Foley, was back on the Churchill Downs’ main surface this morning. The colt — who ran 5th in this year’s Kentucky Derby before finishing a game 2nd in the G3 Matt Winn Stakes — went a very nice 5 furlongs in 1:00.20. That was the bullet move out of 3 to go the distance. It was the colt’s second timed worked since the last Stakes event. Looks to be sitting on go. In 5 starts this year, the colt has only a single win in an allowance race at the Fair Grounds in January. But? Ran 3rd in the G2 Louisiana Derby; 4th in the G2 Risen Star; 5th in the KY Derby; and 2nd in the G3 Matt Winn. Talent. Abounds.
- Averly Jane, an undefeated 2YO filly by Midshipman and trained by Wesley Ward, worked this morning at Keeneland. The filly — who is coming off an impressive win in the Kentucky Juvenile Stakes at Churchill Downs on April 28 — got her first published work since that race this morning. Went an easy 4 furlongs in :50.40. That was the 36th best time out of 54 to go the distance. Be fun to have this one back in action soon. Talk about your bargains? This one only cost $35,000 at the Fasig-Tipton October sale in 2020. Consigned by Maine Chance Farm. Purchased by Newt Dobbs. Nicely done.
- Miss Alacrity, a New York-bred 2YO daughter of Munnings and another trained by Ward, also worked at Keeneland today. This filly — a perfect 1-for-1 so far — went 4 furlongs in :50 flat. That was the 29th best time out of 54 to go the distance. In her first start, she won at Belmont Park against other state-breds by a whopping 10 lengths. And, she was racing only at 5 furlongs. Wow. CJ Thoroughbreds now owns this one, and she looks headed to Saratoga soon.
