Every day, we scour the work tabs at racetracks all over the country.  We are looking for workouts that may be of interest and helpful to you — as both race fans and handicappers.  Some of the horses we will be tracking, you will know.  Some of them, you may not know — as of yet.

  1. Lykan, a 3YO Congrats colt trained by Ingrid Mason, worked at Oaklawn Park this morning. This guy — who ran 7th in the Smarty Jones Stakes on opening day and came back to run a nice 3rd in the Gazebo Stakes in Hot Springs on March 21 — breezed a solid 4 furlongs in :48.20 this morning. That was the 6th best time out of 30 to clock the distance. May not be ready to tackle the big boys in the G1 Arkansas Derby, but a developing sort. Bears watching.
  2. Michevious Alex, a 3YO son of Into Mischief and trained by John Servis (the brother of the infamous Servis), worked at the Palm Meadows Training Center in South Florida this morning. Went an easy half mile in :51.80. that was the 11th best time out of 13 to negotiate the distance. In 7 lifetime starts so far, Mischievious Alex (that’s the way the owner’s spelled it) has 4 wins, 1 second and 1 third. Is coming off an impressive win in the G3 Gotham Stakes and the G3 Swale Stakes. Overall, has 3 wins in a row. This one was purchased for just $140,000 as a 2YO a year ago at OBS-April. Has already earned over $344,000. Looks ready to move up the pecking order and try the bigger boys soon.
  3. Lane Way, a 3YO son of Into Mischief and trained by Richard Mandella, is our latest addition to our “Horses to Watch List.” This one has raced three times so far. Has finished 3rd in each. Was forced to go between horses in the last race, which was won by Peter Eurton’s Shooters Shoot. Lost to a horse by the name of Charlatan two races ago. You may have heard of him, right? Lane Way was steadied hard in that one. In the career debut, Lane Way lost to Nadal. Heard of that one, too, right? Lane Way was purchased as a 2YO in training at OBS-March a year ago for a cool $550,000. Worked 3 furlongs in a really nice :35.20 this morning. That was the 2nd best time out of 10 to go that distance. Beware.
