Every day, we scour the work tabs at racetracks all over the country. We are looking for workouts that may be of interest and helpful to you — as both race fans and handicappers. Some of the horses we will be tracking, you will know. Some of them, you may not know — as of yet.
- Beautiful Memories, a 3YO daughter of Hard Spun and trained by Mark Casse, worked this morning at Palm Meadows Training Center in South Florida. Worked 5 furlongs in a very nice :59.75, which was the bullet move out of 5 to go the distance. It was the 5th published worked since being returned to serious training on Jan. 8. The filly has not started since running 6th in the G1 Spinaway Stakes at Saratoga last September. More to come here.
- Tivoli Twirl, a 3YO son of Twirling Candy and a NY-bred that is based in California, worked for trainer Bob Baffert at Santa Anita this morning. This colt, who spit the bit after a blistering half-mile in his only previous start, worked over the main track at “The Great Race Place” today. Went 4 furlongs in :48.40, which was the 2nd fastest time out of 17 to go that far. The connections paid a whopping $375,000 at the OBS April Sale a year ago. And then? A NY-bred ends up in CA with Baffert? Interesting development here. Must be able to run, or will find his way East soon, don’t you think?
- Dessman, a 5YO son of Union Rags and trained by Team Baffert, worked at Santa Anita today, as well. This mucho-talented and oft-sidelined horse has made only 5 starts in his abbreviated career, to date. In those 5 races, though? Has a record of 2-3-0. Ran 2nd, by just a slim nose, in the 2019, G2 San Vicente Stakes. Ran just twice last year, with a second and a first. Has not been out since April 2020. But? He got his 7th published work today since being returned to serious training on Jan. 1. Went 5 furlongs in 1:01.20, working from the gate. That was the 8th best time out of 22 to go that distance. Looks like this one is about ready for the real stuff very soon. Bears watching. For sure.
- Summering, a 5YO War Front & Stakes-winning mare trained by Tom Proctor for Glen Hill Farm, worked at Tampa Bay Downs this morning. The mare has not run since finishing 6th in the G1 Yellow Ribbon Stakes at Del Mar last August. But she got her 5th published worked since being returned to serious training on Jan. 7. Today, she breezed 5 furlongs over the main dirt track in 1:00.80. That was the bullet move out of 13 to clock the distance. In 10 career starts, this one has a record of 3-1-1 and has earned over $133,731 in purses. Looks about ready to return in the afternoons. Stay tuned.
