We are back looking at the daily workout schedule from around the country. Every day (Some days?), we scour the work tabs at racetracks all over the country.  We are looking for workouts that may be of interest and helpful to you — as both race fans and handicappers.  Some of the horses we will be tracking, you will know.  Some of them, you may not know — as of yet.

We are back…Take a look:

  1. Bezos, a 4YO son of Empire Maker who once was declared the next great thing in the barn of the embattled Bob Baffert and the next so-called Justify, worked at Belmont Park this morning for trainer Linda Rice. This one — who was purchased for $400,000 at the 2019 KEE September Yearling Sale — breezed 4 furlongs in :49.87. That was the 8th best time out of 56 to go the distance. The last time out, this one ran for $50,000 claiming at Churchill Downs in early November, and was picked up by Rice and immediately transported back to NY. He has worked 5 times since being under the Rice tutelage. All works have been half-mile breezes. The quickest time, so far, has been :48.63. So much for the Baffert magic. Good luck with getting your $50,000 back. After winning the 2nd career start at Santa Anita — against 5 other horses, including another from the Baffert barn — by nearly 5 lengths, this one ran 9th in the 2021, G3 Lexington Stakes at KEE. Finished 9th and last that day against the likes of King Fury, Starrininmydreams. Wow. What a miss here.
  2. Fenway, a 4YO son of Into Mischief and interestingly enough another that was formerly in the barn of Baffert and ironically enough the horse that ran 3rd to Bezos in that MSW win at Santa Anita in 2021, worked at Belmont Park today, as well. What are the odds, right? Amazing. Went 5 furlongs in 1:01.40. That was the bullet move out of 10 to clock the distance. This one didn’t break the maiden until last October at Belmont Park. Then, almost immediately, the colt was sold at the KEE November Sale for $100,000 to GMP Stables. A far cry from the $650,000 that SF Racing, Starlight and Madaket Stables paid for this one at the 2019 KEE September Yearling Sale. Hmmm.
  3. Manny Wah, a 6YO son of Will Take Charge and trained by Wayne Catalano, worked this morning at the Fair Grounds. Coming off a 2nd place finish in the Richard R. Scherer Memorial Stakes, this closing sprinter went 4 furlongs in :49.80. That was the 9th best time out of 25 to go the distance. In 25 lifetime starts, this horse has compiled a record of 4-7-6 and has upped his purses to over $520,000 now. This guy is G1 Stakes-placed — with a 3rd in the G1 Malibu Stakes in 2019. Not a bad career. Not bad, at all.
  4. Fire On Time, a 4YO daughter of Not This Time and trained by Dale Romans for the Albaugh Family Stables, worked at Gulfstream Park this morning. This gal — who has won 2 of 3 career starts and has a third in the only loss — went 5 furlongs in 1:01.46. That was the 4th best time out of 7 to go that far. May be interesting to see where this one ends up next. Stakes?
  5. Coach, a 4YO daughter of Commissioner and trained by Brad Cox, worked at Oaklawn Park this morning. This one — who ran 9th in the 2021 KY Oaks, but does have 4-1-2 record in 9 career starts — went 4 furlongs in :48.20. That was the 11th best time out of 77 to clock this distance today. She has raced only once since the KY Oaks debacle, and she won at Hot Springs on Dec. 17. Now, she is entered in the Pippin Stakes for Jan. 8 at Oaklawn Park. Interesting call. Binoculars out.
  6. Floriform, a 4YO son of Into Mischief and trained by Bill Mott, worked this morning at Payson Park Training Center in South Florida. This one — who has won back-to-back races — went 5 furlongs over the main dirt track in a maintenance-move 1:04 time. That was 3rd out of 3 to go the distance. In 5 career starts, this one has a 2-1-0 record. Next?
  7. Bombard, a 9YO gelded son of War Front and trained by Richard Mandella, worked at Santa Anita this morning for the HOF barn operator. Went 4 furlongs in :47.40, which was the 2nd best time out of 13 to go the distance. This one has raced 19 times in the career and has a record of 6-6-3 and has earnings over $552,000. Ran 3rd in the G3 FanDuel Turf Sprint at KY Downs in the last outing, on Sept. 11. This was his 3rd published work since being returned to serious training on Dec. 23. More to come. Stay tuned.
