(Nearly?) Every day (Some days?), we scour the work tabs at racetracks all over the country.  We are looking for workouts that may be of interest and helpful to you — as both race fans and handicappers.  Some of the horses we will be tracking, you will know.  Some of them, you may not know — as of yet.

  1. Weyburn, a 3YO Ontario-bred son of Pioneerof the Nile and trained by James Jerkens, worked for the first time since winning the G3 Gotham Stakes last time out. The upset winner — who was sent off at odds of nearly 47-to-1 — breezed 4 furlongs over the dirt training track in :50.93. That was the 20th best time out of 45 to go the distance. In 4 career starts now, Weyburn has a record of 2 wins and a second and is working on a two-race win streak. Look for this one to show next in the G2 Wood Memorial.
  2. By My Standards, a 5YO son of Goldencents and trained by W. Bret Calhoun, worked at the Fair Grounds in New Orleans this morning. The horse — who won the G2 Alysheba Stakes last September before running 8th in the Breeders’ Cup Classic and 7th in the G1 Clark Stakes — is prepping for the 2021 debut. Went 5 furlongs this morning in a nice time of :59.80. That was the bullet move out of 15 to clock the distance. It was the 5th published work since he was returned to serious training on Feb. 15. Looks about ready to test the starting gate soon. Stay tuned.
