Every day, we scour the work tabs at racetracks all over the country.  We are looking for workouts that may be of interest and helpful to you — as both race fans and handicappers.  Some of the horses we will be tracking, you will know.  Some of them, you may not know — as of yet.  We will keep a keen eye and stopwatch to see who may be working their best and ready for a key race.  Here is a look at today’s top works:

  1. Blended Citizen, winner of the Jeff Ruby Steaks at Turfway Park and impressive in the Lexington Stakes at Keeneland in the next race, trained this morning at Belmont Park for trainer Doug O’Neill. This guy rambled a half mile in :47.55 — which was the bullet move out of 35 to go that distance today. Nobody much is talking about this colt, but they should. Of all the newcomers to the Triple Crown party, he could be the one to task Justify the most in the Belmont Stakes — if the connections decide to go that route. This is a fast-improving colt. Take note.
  2. Engage, a 3YO colt trained by Chad Brown, breezed a half mile at Belmont Park today, as well. He went the distance in :47.99, which was the third fastest time at the distance. Keep an eye on this guy, too.
  3. Gronkowski, who looked to be on the Kentucky Derby trail before he was bumped due to a spike in fever, has been transferred to the United States and has joined the barn of Chad Brown, as well. He got his first serious action here this morning, going a half mile in :47.99, too. It will be interesting to see if Brown returns this colt to the grass, or will try Justify in the upcoming Belmont Stakes. Either way, nice morning debut for this one.
  4. Girvin, winner of the G1 Haskell Invitational for trainer Joe Sharp last summer, worked at Churchill Downs this morning. He went an easy half mile in :49.20, which was the 36th best time out of 85 to go that distance. Keep an eye on this one. World of talent, obviously.
  5. Mississippi, who made a short run on the Derby Trail this Spring for trainer Mark Casse, worked at Churchill Downs this morning, too. He went a half mile in :49.20, which was the 36th best time. This one is super talented. Ready for the next spot.
  6. Sassy Sienna, one of the talented teammates of Monomoy Girl in the barn of Brad Cox, worked this morning at Churchill Downs. She went a half in :48.20, which was the 12th best time out of 85. It will be interesting to see how Cox manages both of his mega-stars in the 3YO filly camp this summer.
  7. King Zachary, who has emerged as one of the top 3YO colts in the barn of Dale Romans, went five furlongs at Churchill Downs this morn. He covered the distance in 1:02.20, which was 14th best out of 20. Watch for his next showing.
  8. World Approval, scratched out of a grass Stakes event at Pimlico last weekend after the rain deluge, worked this morning at Churchill Downs. He went 5 furlongs on the dirt in :59.80, in a very nice move. That was 4th best of 20 to go that far.
