Every day, we scour the work tabs at racetracks all over the country.  We are looking for workouts that may be of interest and helpful to you — as both race fans and handicappers.  Some of the horses we will be tracking, you will know.  Some of them, you may not know — as of yet.  We will keep a keen eye and stopwatch to see who may be working their best and ready for a key race.  Here is a look at today’s top works:

  1. Beach Patrol, who ran second in the G1 Old Forester Stakes at Churchill Downs on Derby Day, worked this morning at Belmont Park for trainer Chad Brown. The 5YO son of Lemon Drop Kid, who won the G1 Joe Hirsch Turf Classic and the G1 Arlington Million last Fall before running second in the Longines Breeders’ Cup Turf, went 5 furlongs in 1:01.88 — which was the 11th best time out of 15. The move came over the inner turf track. Look out for his next out. He is dynamite in the second try off a layoff.
  2. Rushing Fall, who lost for the first time ever in the G3 Edgewood Stakes on KY Oaks Day, worked this morning at Belmont Park, as well. The 3YO More Than Ready filly, who won the Championship last year, worked 5 furlongs on the inner turf, too. She went the distance in 1:02.36 — which was the 14th best time out of 15. She may not have preferred the soft ground in Louisville on the first weekend in May.
  3. Significant Form, a 3YO Creative Cause filly who is starting to develop some significant form of late, worked this morning for Chad Brown at Belmont Park. She went 5 furlongs on the inner turf in 1:02.36, which was 14th of 15, as well. This one ran fourth in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies to end last year, but won the Memories of Silver Stakes on April 22 at Aqueduct to begin the 2018 season. Look out for this one.
  4. Seeking the Soul, who won the G1 Clark Handicap last November and came back to run 5th in the Pegasus World Cup against the grand Gun Runner, worked this morning for trainer Dallas Stewart. In his just second work since the Pegasus, he went 3 furlongs in :37.40, which was 4th best out of 16. He is gearing back up.
  5. American Anthem, a 4YO Bodemeister colt trained by Bob Baffert, has joined his Team at Churchill Downs. This one is entered in an allowance event at Churchill on June 1, and he prepped today by going a snappy half mile in :48.60 — which was 9th best out of 40. This one ran 3rd in the Breeders’ Cup Sprint in his last go. A nice one gearing back up should be mighty tough at low odds in the 2018 debut.
  6. Seven Trumpets, a 3YO Morning Line colt trained by Dale Romans, worked this morning at Churchill Downs, going a half mile in :50. That was the 27th best time out of 40. He ran fifth in the G3 Stonestreet Lexington Stakes in the last out. His best showing was a tough beat second in the Jerome Stakes back in January.
  7. Free Drop Billy, who still may be considered a prospect for the Belmont Stakes and another try against Justify, worked this morning at Churchill Downs for Romans. He went 5 furlongs in :59.60 — which was the 2nd best time out of 25. We will know more soon about his next race plans. He has not won since capturing the Breeders’ Futurity at Keeneland as a 2YO last fall.
  8. McCraken, winner of his 2018 debut and a top contender for the Met Mile on Belmont Stakes day, trained this morning for Ian Wilkes at Churchill Downs. He went 5 furlongs in 1:00.80. That was the 7th best time out of 25. This son of Ghostzapper looks primed and ready for a super effort.
  9. Promises Fulfilled, winner of the Fountain of Youth Stakes at Gulfstream Park before faltering after early fast fractions in both the Florida Derby and the Kentucky Derby, worked 5 furlongs this morning, as well. He went in :59.60, which tied for the second best time. It will be interesting to see where Romans places this one next. He loves Churchill Downs.
