Every day, we scour the work tabs at racetracks all over the country. We are looking for workouts that may be of interest and helpful to you — as both race fans and handicappers. Some of the horses we will be tracking, you will know. Some of them, you may not know — as of yet. We will keep a keen eye and stopwatch to see who may be working well:
- Givemeaminit, a 3YO son of Star Guitar and a Louisiana-bred, has only one win in 13 lifetime starts, but he has been banging heads with some of the big boys from all over the world the last two years. His last out was an 8th place finish in the G1 H. Allen Jerkens Stakes at Saratoga on Aug. 25. Last time he hit the board, though, was in the G3 Pat Day Mile on KY Derby Day, when he was third. He returned to serious training today, when he got his first published work since the Jerkens. Went 3 furlongs in :37.20, which was the 4th best time out of 9 to go that far.
- Tap Gun, a beautiful 3YO daughter of Tapit and trained by Tom Amoss, has sported two wins in a row, and today was back on the track at Churchill Downs. She went an easy half-mile in :49.80. That was 17th out of 31 to go that far. Watch for this one. Good right now.
- Midnight Bisou, the beneficiary of a steward’s decision in the G1 Cotillion Stakes her last time out, was back in training for the barn of Steve Asmussen this morning at Churchill Downs. the Midnight Lute filly went 5 furlongs in 1:01.60 — which was 6th best of the 14 to go that far. Obviously, this one will be pointed to what may be a magnificent race in the Breeders’ Cup Distaff at Churchill Downs on the first weekend of November. And, we all hope, a showdown with some of the world’s best fillies and mares — including her arch nemesis Monomoy Girl. Can’t wait.
- Switzerland, a 4YO son of Speightstown who has simply been magnificent since being moved from Chad Brown to Steve Asmussen, worked at Churchill Downs this morning. The colt, who is 5-for-6 this year under the Asmussen watch and care, went 5 furlongs inn 1:01.60. That was the 6th best time out of 14 to go. What’s next for this one? The Breeders’ Cup Sprint may loom, but that race is shaping up as a world class event, too, with the likes of Promises Fulfilled, Whitmore, and Limousine Liberal all running so well in the Phoenix. Watch out.
