LOUISVILLE, KY (JUNE 30, 2017) – If there was a “Horse of the Meet” for this year’s Spring/Summer calendar at Churchill Downs, one could argue that it would have to be Limousine Liberal.

Then again, it may not be an argument at all. On Friday night, Limousine Liberal splashed away to an easy victory in the Kelly’s Landing Stakes on Churchill Downs closing night.

It marked Limousine Liberal’s third straight stakes victory at Churchill Downs this meet, tying the filly Finley’sluckycharm – who also had three stakes victories at the Twin Spires this Spring and Summer.

But Limousine Liberal captured the Grade 2 Churchill Downs Stakes on Derby Day and then came back to win the Grade 3 Aristides Stakes here on June 3. Finley’sluckycharm, on the other hand, won two Grade 3 events and an overnight stake.

The head bob for the title goes to Limousine Liberal.

Friday’s night’s task was supposed to be tough for Limousine Liberal, as well.

It wasn’t.

Jockey Robby Albarado steered the 5-year-old gelding to about three wide on the turn and easily ran away for the victory on a sloppy track.

The Truth or Else rallied to grab second, while The Player, who was making his 2017 debut, was third. The Player, who ran second to the Grade 1 winner Cupid in last year’s Indiana Derby, experienced trouble inside and then outside before getting nipped for the place.

“He (Limosine Liberal) likes it here. Robby rode a really good race and it just all worked out,” said winning trainer Ben Colebrook. “He’s a older horse now. He’s learned how to settle a little bit and make the most out of his run. It was really a nice win.”
